FAMILY REUNION PLANNING
FAMILY REUNION TIME is approaching fast. Have you started making plans for yours this year? We have some suggestions that can help you along the way to a fun reunion, The Summer Solstice is the ending of spring after the family has done spring cleaning and fixed up the yard and perhaps planted new plants or a garden. This is the time when Heavenly Father established family reunions and marked it off with three days and three nights of celebrating, which no man can alter, a universal Holiday.
FAMILY REUNIONS are very fun and rewarding where all can reunite in family gatherings and are so meaningful and fun when all join in all kinds of fun activities. They become very meaningful and rewarding when planned out by everyone. When each family is given an assignment the reunion is greatly enhanced and every one goes back home happy and feeling worthwhile and an important member of the family and united together with their understandings of one another strengthened and their ties and goals amongst each other.
EACH FAMILY can choose what talent they would like to display and/or which craft they would like to teach to the others. Family histories can be told and handed out to each other, pictures can be given and family mementos exchanged. Decorations and family plays really highlight things when they can be had. Potlucks are always part to the reunions. Each family can teach others their favorite game etc. There is no end to what all can be planned and done at family reunions. We are sure you all have many great ideas that can be shared.
ONE OF THE THINGS our family really enjoyed doing when the reunion went over a three day span was one afternoon in the park shooting paint palls and having two different teams competing to see who could hit the other team the most. Another thing we did was each person that wanted built a rocket to see whose rocket shot the furthest. We did a lot of Camping through our lives being Scout Leaders, and is such a fun thing to do and camping skills exchanged. When most of the children were married we took turns having some fun at each other’s homes.
FAMILY REUNIONS are one of the funniest and rewarding experiences in life! It is time to get outdoors and enjoy some real fun now that the home and yard are in good standing, hopefully. Live it up and have fun! We hope you all have a great summer and may your reunions be joyful.
HERE IS A FUN GAME WE ENJOYED PLAYING WHEN YOUNG
FATHER/MOTHER MAY I
THIS is an excellent game that helps children to remember to ask their parent’s permission in all that they do. You start the game by drawing sticks or such to select who will act as father or mother first. You then mark a line and all other players get behind it and the parent withdraws a goodly distance from the other players all the while staying in front of them. Then the parent says the name of a player and says ‘***** you may take….’ and begins giving instructions to each one in turn asking them to do various things, listed below, and then they must reply in turn when spoken to ‘Father/Mother may I?’ and then the parent replies ‘yes, you may.’ If a player fails to ask if they may, they have to go back to the end of the line. If anyone tries to sneak they have to go back behind the line. This teaches children that it does not pay to cheat or do wrong. The first one to make it to the parent and touches them gets to be the next parent and the game starts all over again. This can go on as long as desired.
THE PARENT’S WISHES….
YOU MAY TAKE…
- One/two/three-baby steps. This is taken by placing one foot in front of the other touching heel to toe then bring the foot in back up by the one in front. If you are told that you may take two or three baby steps you proceed with the back foot placing it in front of the front one and so on till two or three baby steps are completed.
- One/two/three-normal steps. Follow the same procedures as above, taking normal steps.
- One/two/three-giant steps. Follow the same procedures as above, taking as large a step as possible each time.
- One/two/three-scissor steps. This is done by taking a large step to the side then another large step across to the other side.
- One/two/three-Small hops
- One/two/three-medium hops
- One/two/three-giant hops. (As large as you can)
